'Chick‐CAN of the Sea' Structure Wins Best Use of Labels Award at Canstruction Competition
SAN DIEGO – Dec. 1, 2005
Ever wonder what imagination and a can of Chicken of the Sea® seafood can do? The possibilities are endless. Winner of the Best Use of Labels award, this depiction of The Mermaid, "Chick‐CAN of the Sea," was made completely out of cans and was used in the Canstruction® contest in New York.
Canstruction is a charity event held in cities across the United States and abroad where architecture and engineering firms design and build sculptures composed entirely of canned food. After the event, food is donated to local food banks and shelters.
This award-winning Canstruction of The Mermaid was built by Butler Rogers Baskett, an architecture firm, and was made with 3,617 Chicken of the Sea cans.
Canstruction is trademarked by the Society of Design Administration, and works in tandem with the American Institute of Architects and other members of the design and construction industry.
